I've seen this topic before but I'm bored, so...

I don't install walls or other such projects associated with landscaping, so no, I'm not a landscaper.
I think it's a bit of an insult to the guys who ARE landscapers to say you're a landscaper if all you do is mow lawns.

Even "lawn service" (which is the term used in my business name) can be misleading since many people think of "fertilizing" when they hear it.

Customer perception.

You name a business Joe Lawn Service people will call you to just mow their lawn.

You name your business Joe Landscaping people will call you for more then just mowing.

So if you do more then just mowing why use a business name that will discourage people from picking up the phone.

my thoughts:
lawn service is mowing, fertilizer, aerate, roll, topdress.
landscaping is mulch, stone, plants, trees and the maintenance type work.
hardscape is patios, walkways, walls, concrete type work.

Weekly mow and go
Fert and weed maintenance
Lite landscaping like small sod installs

Landscaping would cover everything else (gets iffy if you are landscaping or tree service). Then hardscaping covers everything stone and more.

That's how I break it down at least.

My company names includes lawn care. While i do think that landscape maintenence technically sounds more appropriate, lawn care is a better fit from where i am from.
