right now, the race to the bottom of the reliability list is between the Flo-Pro valve and the 'square' WeatherMatic solenoid

True, dat. I lost track of how many solenoids we replaced during that terrible era. The newer white wire solenoids seem to be working fine.

I think I may have had to replace one already. I saw one manifold where it was an S24B solenoid needing replacing, the brass-threaded deluxe solenoid. Since it was on a Silver Bullet valve, it told me that someone had been running out of solenoids.

At least WM gave us solenoids by the case through two generations of crappy Mexican-made parts. I don't blame anyone across the border, I blame Mike Mason & all his cronies in Dallas for short-sheeting what used to be a quality product.

I still had some old-stock USA-made square solenoids to sell, thank goodness. The failed S24B solenoid surprised me, though. I thought they had missed out on the cheapening.

The solenoids on our 8000 series (S24B) work to this day, it was the crappy silver bullet S20P version that screwed us. WM did use the same solenoid on the 21000 valve, as well.

these newer S24B solenoids do not have the pale green teflon coating on the plunger that I remember from back when - not sure when that changed
