Is this the culprit and what is it?

Local resident, not our customer, called about dis-coloration that is occurring. Had same issue last year. Very splotchy in parts of front yard with a few of streaks and large patches in the back yard. Other than the color there are no signs of disease or desiccation.

Attached is a pic of the back yard and some sort of worm/nematode found in the yard, especially along the margins where the color changes. I don't necessarily think it's a nematode as these are supposed to be microscopic. So.... what is it?
