Master Valve

There is one inside the house and of course two on the backflow. Should that be sufficient or are you thinking of something else?

The one in the house as a drain after the valve, which will be handy in the winter.

My friend also recommends adding some drains at each manifold.

Those are shutoff valves, not master valves. Master valves are controlled by the irrigation controller and only pressurizes the main supply line when needed by zone valves.

This is what I use, but any good quality valve is acceptable.
