sehitchman's equipment and work thread

Thought I'd show the new trailer. I've been looking to upgrading from my single 5X10 no brakes to this for awhile.
Trailer size = 6 1/2' X 14'
dual axle both with brakes
diamond plate fenders
2' steel dove tail
7k drop leg jack
Equipment cage with special features
2 5/8" bulldog coupler
Bi-fold rear and side spring assist gates
Tool docks, and mesh tongue platform.
Grey paint, for something different
Mesh sides 16"
LED lights
15" wheels and mounted spare tire

I really wanted a good solo operator trailer, as this thread builds, I'll show some of my ideas to make solo work easier. I've got lots left to add still. This is the basic set up.

The Bi-Fold rear and side gates are an option. I wanted them to fold for easier towing and less wind resistance. They can both be left in the full up position for loading convenience when running the mowing route.

Pic 1 = really nice latch with safety pins which are tethered. Also see the recessed LED clearance light, less damage risk!
Pic 2 = Nice steel wheels, a little nicer than stock, and the big fender support welded in.
Pic 3 = Side of rear gate, notice big lift handles welded on.
Pic 4 = Side stake pocket, also see the tool holder (tube ) welded inside the side rail, I had three welded and plan some detachable racks for the future.
Pic 5 = Led tail lights and gate spring assist. The lights are recessed in the tube bumper. The spring is on the hinge, I've tried the other assists, and after a trip and face plant over the cables, decided to go this route.
Pic 6 = Welded on spare tire carrier and spare.
Pic 7 = Right side profile

Pic 1 = 7k drop leg jack, no more wooden block to speed up and reduce winding. Just pull the pin and the jack drops down, insert pin.
Pic 2 = Asked above, why the bi-fold gates? With a cage up there, I'm not really gaining anything by folding the side and rear gates, but! What you can see in this picture is the cage is removable, it actually sits on a tool platform. So, I can remove the cage and I have a platform for Dingo attachments. "But wait, there's more" The cage platform can be removed from the trailer also. It has three steel tubes that slide into supports on the trailer. When removed, I have an open trailer with 24" rails and rear gate to catch the wind!
Pic 3 = Close up of cage bolt to tool platform
Pic 4 = Solo guys friend, magnetic camera and monitor, makes hooking up easy!
Pic 5 = Side view of cage and supports. The cage platform can be lifted out and totally removed, Or " Wait, there's more" , It can be reversed. Allowing it to hang out over the tongue! This pic also shows the expanded metal tray in the tongue.

I still have trimmer, blower, and hand tool racks to add. I also plan on an ATV wench to easily retrieve a non running machine.

Very nice trailer.. Watch out when crossing ditches tho with the dove tail... It will drag and if in dirt will push those lights out I've had it happen to me.. Looks to be a well made trailer. Congratulations

This feature was on my "most wanted" list. The standard light duty trailers all have an issue with the tailgate and jack. I wanted A Jack that did not impact the tailgate when down. I almost never used the tailgate and always had to be careful not to drop it on the jack. Now, I actually have a work area if needed!

That swift hitch would be a life saver for getting the damn Uni-mount plows on! If Im still running my uni-mount plow I am definitely getting one! Might get one just for the dump trailer! I am not a big fan of buying things but this might just be worth its price. My bumpers beat to hell from the missing the dump trailer!

You're trailer is awesome btw! I love that Ford!


I use this with my trailer jack. I love it. Came with my trailer but if I knew how great it was I'd have purchased it myself anyways!

I was asked to show the gates up and in the loading position.
Pic 1 = Rear gate in full up, I'll probably run it this way when out running the mowing route.
Pic 2 = Side gate down
Pic 3 = Trailer profile, gate up
Pic 4 = Rear gate down
Pic 5 = Side gate up, good view of the assist spring.
