We had those on a few sites. They actually lasted for a while. It was made by Rain Bird Europe and they actually still sold that controller throughout Europe up until a few years ago. You should see some of the trippy looking controllers that they have on the RBE web site....

Battery operated.... gee... wonder who Toro stole their design from....

Interesting question. Yes, on both municipal and HOA kinds of jobs. Why do you ask?

They are a big company. There was a whole write up on them a few years back in Lawn and Landscape or one of the trade magazines. It was an interesting read. They talked a lot about how they run their operation.

I worked for them for a short time in the mid 90's when I was thinking of a change from self-employment. Like most companies, things might look a little different from the inside than from the outside.

A couple of the better things Gachina did was to provide free ESL classes after work, which helped some employees to advance, and a strong summer internship program that brought in talent from colleges with solid L/S-Hort. programs.

While I was there, they had one location and between 100 and 110 employees. They were trying to implement something called Total Quality Management, with mixed results.

I was in charge of four maintenance crews, and had most of the time of two irrigation techs on many properties. The properties I managed had lots of old irrigation that we were renovating. They ranged from a complex of $1M plus townhouses to a site with 24 large apartment buildings, to a few small industrial parks and everything in between.

Yea they are pretty big. I met the owner a couple years back at a bid meeting. I woulnt mind having my company get as big as his in the future lol. I run into them a lot in Fremont where they are doing a lot of city work.
