Standing Up to a Tiger

Superintendent Jeff Corcoran deserves credit for sticking up for himself and his crew after Tiger Woods criticized his course -- the Oak Hill Country Club -- during a practice round for the PGA Championship, says Superintendent magazine's Editorial Director Larry Aylward. Read his column here.

as always, great read Larry...and nice to see the him stand up to Tiger and defend his course as not many would and go back several years before his troubles, and I don't think ANYONE would have stood up to Tiger

btw, I'd love to see Jeff take Tigers second shot on 18, then maybe Tiger would rethink a few things

After reading the article, it seems that Tiger was making an observation rather than a criticism.

An "observation" can be a "criticism." In this case, it was.

OBSERVATION
a remark, statement, or comment based on something one has seen, heard, or noticed

CRITICISM

the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes.

You are right, an observation can be a criticism, but in this case it looks like Tiger was just responding to a question. I think the head line overstates Tiger's observation, but in my mind it wasn't Tiger bashing worthy, but that is just my observation.

Each is entitled to his own opinion, but I think the media is starting to sensationalize headlines. Good to get you position, its always good to see how other people view things.

It's an old, classic course and the bent/Poa mixture works well for the members. But who knows what the future will bring for such courses. Poa-control herbicides for bentgrass greens are coming.
