17 hp kawasaki smoking problems...

Got a lazer z hp, 1060 hrs, original motor, 17 hp kawasaki, been noticing some white smoke at start for a few seconds and then it's gone, mower seems to be running fine, and today after I mowed a yard and put it on the trailer I see a lil smoke coming from the fan shroud area on top of the motor, it probably smoked there for 15 seconds and that was it. What's going on here with all this smoking ? I guess my motor might be toast, who knows.

For a motor to be toast, it will smoke a lot before it finally craps out. The smoke on start up isnt really a big deal. It could simply be a little oil slipping past the valve guides when its sitting. Smoking when under load is what would be a sign of work piston rings.

The smoke after shut down is a sign that you have an oil leak somewhere. Those drips of oil are burning when they hit the hot engine block. Try removing the engine shroud (when its cold) and see what you see). Could be a clogged breather worn gasket. Easy fix.
