Vent fitting leaking... after service replacement!

Just over a year ago I received a letter from Hustler telling me that my mower was in danger of catching fire due to a leaky vent which the place I purchased the Hustler Sport.

I mowed over this previous weekend and after I was finished and starting blowing all the grass and such off the mower before putting it up I noticed this:

The new vent fitting leaking.

Anyone know what size fitting this is so I can replace it myself and two does anyone know if there is a fitting that works better than others? Looking for more of a long term fix and not so much a year to year replacement.

Brian,

Where would you like me to send the serial number to, it appears you have Private Messaging turned off. Just post here in the forums?

Thanks!

MMmm, I've been getting PM's? You can try hustlermidwest@aol.com. I only go there when I'm expecting something. I'll keep an eye out for your email.
I'll double check my settings.

sage55,
Got your numbers and ran them in the system. Our records show that the re-work has not been done on your machine. It's surprising the number of dealers that do the work and don't claim warranty on it. If you believe you had the valve replaced I believe it was. Our warranty dept have had a couple ( less than 6) of valves that have popped out a second time, but never a 3rd. Maybe the casting on these few didn't hold.
Regardless,a dealer will repair your vent at no charge. If you call ahead he most likely will do it as you wait.

I've got a 2011 SuperZ that had the rework done and also a 2012 that had the upgraded fitting and this is happening to both of them as well. I just put in the 2012 in the shop for them to look/fix it. It appears that the gasket that is underneath the fitting has cracked and that is where the leak is coming in.

Ive had the vent things replaced under the recall some time ago and have noticed a very slight leak coming from one of them recently. Is this something that the dealer should take care of under warranty?
I mean, its not like dribbling out, just a damp spot around the seal but it was enough for me to smell fuel.

If you feel that the vent is failing after you already had it repaired I would suggest bring it back to your dealer and Hustler would warranty a second replacement if in fact the first one failed.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

I didnt have a problem with the original ones but followed the recommendations from Hustler and got them replaced under that recall.

I dont know if I trust it or not. Being I guess rubber and plastic I cant see it fixing itself, only getting worse.

Im not freaked out about it at the moment but if it failed and fuel sprayed out over the exhaust or something then thats not going to have a happy ending.
