Accused of running over a chicken and fired

I have a customer in the middle of Memphis that has 5 chickens running around his back yard. They keep them as pets for his kids. I went to cut at 8am yesterday, they are always first because they also have a pit bull running around back there and they have to be home so they can let him in. Anyway I go to mow as usual and also trim some shrubs around the front of the house. Everything goes normal, leave with no worries. Sitting here eating dinner about 15 minutes ago and its this guy with the chickens, first thing out of his mouth are you kiled one of my chickens yesterday and my kids are really tore up about it. I didn't really know what to say. So I just told him if I had run over one I would have known and I would have told them about it. He starts getting all defensive saying there is nothing else that could have done it and there was a cut on its side. I just tell him I am sorry but I would have known had I done it and would have been honest about it.

I don't know if he just wanted to hear me say I did it, I thought I would have known if I ran over a chicken. He thought it was hit by a blade, I told him with that mulching deck it would have left nothing but a pile of feathers but he wasn't listening. If I ran over it at all I would have noticed something you would think, but I guess its possible. It was a kinda trashy pita yard anyway right at the end of the season. I know we all say this but there was something I didn't like about the guy when I first him, it was the first cut of the month, pretty sure I won't be seeing that money. Guess I could send them an invoice with a $2 discount for the chicken.

That's what I thought at first, trimmer picked up a rock and went through the chicken, at least go pick him up and give him a proper burial...in some hot oil.

Pet chickens are generally a little tough, not to mention getting the feathers off them is a pita
