Fire Ant Nest Structure

I've seen this done by a University of Florida entomologist who was studying fire ant's. It give's you an idea of how extensive those nest's are. A mound that was 14" across on the surface had a network of tunnel's that was more than 3' deep.

Fire Ant Nest Structure

There is a guy I saw online who pours liquid aluminum in the mound and let's it cool then digs it up and sells them as 'art' pieces. They look pretty damn cool
