T242 Issues

Have a Shindiawa T242 string trimmer, bought it used - ran great for a week. Has a brand new carb, new filter, new plug, fresh gas... Starts perfect but won't throttle up to full throttle, sounds like it chokes itself out. Yes choke is off.

Thought maybe the carbon build up in the exhaust was killing it, took the exhaust off - ran like a bat out of hell but still choked itself out. Any ideas?

Adjust your high side needle valve. Seems like its getting too much fuel or too little.

Barrel valve carb...may have just one adjustment in the top, or the second high will be on the side. If the carb is new I'd have a hard time blaming it, but you may tickle the adjustment.

Second idea- coil. You might check in to if it's 2 stage. It if is and the top end is crapping out when hot it will only reach one rpm about halfway to max as it tops out the low end of the carb and does not transition to high end. You keep opening the hottie. Up to wot looking for more speed, feeding in more fuel than that rpm burns and you choke her down. A quick way to investigate this is to run the machine mines air filter- if you have lots of spit back out the intake that may be it.

Intake mounting bolts could be loose. Won't rev worth a crap if you have an intake leak.

There is an adjuster on carb. Takes about two minutes.
