The 8.1 big block is a good engine, but it drinks the fuel (as you'd expect).

scagrider22 has a C-5500 with the 8.1 so maybe he'll chime in on real world MPG's. I wouldn't expect much more than 10-11 at best. If the truck had a Duramax in it I would say $23,000 would be a decent deal, with the 8.1 I wouldn't pay more than $15-$16,000 for it. I wouldn't bother with a 1 ton, they have almost no legal payload.

That would be great, I realized for what I want and need it for id be crazy for jus a 1ton. Ive read a lot about the chevy c series and heard great things just cant find anything on mpgs for the 8.1s where im located its pretty hilly but I never travel too far. Mostly a 15mile radius from my shop. From what ive noticed trucks in my area people are over priced and they are being sold so not sure if this guy will move at all.

No way you'll see 10-11. I had a 2500 with the 8.1 and didn't even get that. The 5500 would obviously be even worse.

Really? I'd have thought you could get 10 out of one empty. I've never owned an 8.1 though, so I'm only guessing.
