MPS 2014 Work/Equip./Misc. Thread

Going to go ahead and start a 2014 thread. Trying to decide how big I want to go this year. When I owned my previous company, I got pretty big and then got burned out. I sold off the company and only kept a few accounts. Over the past 3 years, I have had steady growth without putting any money at all towards advertising. $0.00 has been my advertising budget over the past 3 years. I was just trying to decide if I want to "shoot the moon" again and go really big or just stay about the same size as I am right now. Things that make you go hhhhuuummmmmm..

Here's some pics of snow and ice work. This is the first year that I've ventured into this area. We don't really get a lot of snow in my area but so far, we've had 2 small snow and ice events this season..

Salting

Here are some pics of the crew out spreading some salt this week. Took me a while to figure out what works best but I think I hit on a pretty good combination and it's pretty cheap also..

This is how we spent our Friday. Getting one of our apartment complexes ready for their HUD inspection on Monday. We have another one to do on Tuesday. Started the week off spreading salt in single digit temps and spent today spreading grass seed and straw in the mid 50's. Crazy Tennessee weather. Hope everybody is staying busy..

Well, I must not have made it clear enough. I got burned out. Well I was in the process of being burned out for about 5 years. I, at one point, had 4 crews plus me, by myself, out working. I would do misc. jobs and odd jobs while my other crews did mostly lawn maintenance. I was around 175-200 accounts. I just lost interest. I think mostly because of dealing with people or should I say workers that just did as little as possible to get by and by the mountain of paperwork. I spent a lot of time trying to keep customers happy. So, I got burned out. I started to let things slip and then I sold the company about 3 years ago. It was the best decision that I ever made. I kept enough accounts to keep me afloat (15 or so) while I transitioned to working for the man. Well, my plans changed. I found myself enjoying what I was doing again. I realized that I still had a passion for the industry but that passion had just got a little murky. I like the actual work and being out there in the field. I'm not a desk person and that's what had happened when it got big. I'm now up to about 60 accounts (some pretty big places) and it's me and my son and a couple of seasonal guys. It's almost to the point where we can't handle it without starting another crew. So, I'm at that crossroads again. Go bigger or stay right where I'm at. If I do go big again, I'm going to definitely have a office manager because I absolutely hate the paperwork side of the biz..
