As long as the refiners can sell off any and all excess inventory to buyers outside of North America the price will always be unstable.

Before inflation and heavy taxation to support the socialist way of life cradle to grave, ignorance is truly bliss since at least 4 generations have and will never know how much the cost of their very existence is for the selfs.

Winter means more fuel being used in homes. Just like in the summer when they know people will vacation, prices go up.

Taxes.

diesel is the fuel of over land truckers.

Big rigs and their trailers damage roads with their supra heavy loads.
They travel more than anyone else, they make more smog and environmental issues.
They require the existence of DOT cops to regulate them etc etc etc.

This is all paid for and managed by taxes.

If there were NO taxes on fuel, Gasoline would be $2 per US gallon and Diesel would be $1 or less.

most of what you pay in diesel is taxes.

Here Diesel has dropped $0.10 since Monday to $3.74/gal. When it got cold for 3 days everything turned to gel. Couldn't get it for 3 days unless I took a trip to I-80 truckstop. I figured that alone would jack up the price but it didn't seem to.

It costs more to refine the ultra low sulphur diesel the EPA mandated a few years back.

Was talking to are fuel man at the farm last week and he had said diesel wont move a whole lot because of the cost to burn the fuel to get the ultra low sulfur in it. In witch makes the fuel dirty and some of that is causing all these emissions BS to happen.
