Keep insurance during off season?

I'm a part timer and my mowing season is about over. I can't see any reason to keep my gen liability insurance going since I won't be doing any work until next March. Is there any reason that I can't think of to keep it? It costs about $54 per month.

Is it just general liability or does it include equipment coverage? Might want to keep it in case your equipment gets stolen over the off season.

I don't have equipment coverage because I'm using cheap equipment that I could replace myself if I needed to.

Why is your season ending? We mow all year round in South Louisiana.

The grass is barely growing. Last year we made it to October when people told us they were good for the year.

Most general liability is based on gross revenue. Your payments are just spread out. Its not like taking your car off the road for 6 months.

Plus the rates and monthly payments are usually for annual premiums. If you cancel there will most likely be a penalty. You may save 200 dollars at the most, but it will probably cost you more in the long run. Most companies give discounts for years of loyalty as a customer. If you tell your agent your situation , he should actually be able to rate your policy for a certain number of months of coverage which could reduce your annual premium. Explain your situation to your agent and ask for options.

Because you might not get it back, better to pay a little then a lot later. I think insurance companies are starting to frown on this. They are taking all the risk during the season and loosing money during the off season.

Not enough money to even be worth the effort.

I have something I do with one of my trucks you might like. The one that gets the leaf box has no use from Dec 15th - March 15th so the insurance company agrees to remove it from the policy for those 3 months each year. It cuts the annual bill by about 300. Its still insured for for theft or other claims I just can't drive it then.

You can't drop Biz coverage and restart it like that. Rates take into account seasonality of the biz. Meant to be year round, renewable coverage. You don't want to start the canx/new biz cycle. No one will want to insure you.
