2500hd 8.1 towing?

Hello,

I have a 01 Silverado 2500hd with the 8.1 gas engine and the allison tranny, just had the top end rebuilt at 197,000. I am looking at buying a dump trailer 12,000 to 14,000 pound gvwr. My truck is rated at 13,000 but the trailer will never be fully loaded, I do work in a wildfire burn area and need a trailer to hauling my skid steer and burt trees. Do you guys think that this will put too much stress on my truck, I would be towing the trailer a maximum of once a week?

Thanks

i would say no, not at all…the 8.1 and the allison is what they put in the medium duty trucks, the 2500 is considered a light duty…if anything maybe beef up the rear suspension if the truck is squatting quite a bit, and that's simply adding a leaf or an air bag, not sure if you are familiar with those…overall, the truck should be fine

I have a 8.1 crew cab 4X4 we pull a fifth wheel camper weights 11k pin weight 1200 no extra sup. It does squat a little maybe a inch have no problems. There is a big differ in a 2500 and a 2500hd it is equal to the older 3500swt. I have a 2007 dmax not much differ. Sorry diesel guys
