Echo 280T and 280 regular. I run the 280 on everything. Pole saw, edger, trimmers.

A lot of people are stating their personal preference in this thread. Personal preference will vary from person to person. If you are looking for durability, performance, and ease of use, based on what I've read here and what I use personally is Shindaiwa. Rarely do these require maintenance. Very efficient machines that are durable and possess all 3 of the aforementioned criteria. Perhaps Stihl is popular but I doubt that they are made with the quality of craftsmanship that can be found in the Shindaiwa lineup. Plus before Echo bought them out they had the best slogan; "First to start, last to quit."

That would actually be a Honda String trimmer. I couldn't find an echo picture on the provided pictures so I just chose that one.

i really like redmax and my only complaint would be i liked the old round rubber handles better than the newer squared plastic ones

but i cant say bad about other brands because ive been running only redmax about 12 years since changing over from the old john deere green machines . of note those green machines were awesome (but heavy) and were powered by same engine redmax runs

my redmax are dependable / well built / light / powerful machines

I know there is a least one RedMax dealer here, and it is the same shop I've bought 21" Snapper and had repairs done there. They've been around a while, and seem to have decent service. The only bad thing I remember is that it can take a long time (sometimes a couple of weeks) to repair equipment, but that seems to be pretty normal.

I'm thinking of trying one out, because I've never used one. I will probably look at Shindaiwa, Echo, and Redmax, and also look at a combo system, since I have very little equipment now. Unfortunately, Shindaiwa apparently does not give you the option for a bigger engine like Stihl and Echo, so it may make sense for me to go with the Stihl Kombi or the Echo PAS. It would probably be more efficient for me to be able to use a pole saw, blade edger, and trimmer instead of just having a second trimmer.

I have nothing against Stihl, but I've never owned one. All the ones I've used seem to be pretty old, heavy, and half the time don't start very well, but since I've used only older ones I won't know how good a new one will run until I try one. If I can't try it before I buy it I may just go with Echo (because of the PAS system) but I would really like to try Shindaiwa again, or try out RedMax. I even looked at Maruyama, but I was unable to find out if there are any dealers in my area (I ran into some problem accessing the site I needed to go to).

also if you get redmax their heads are junk compared to shindiawa speed feed heads . my dealer allows us to switch out the redmax head for a speed feed head free of charge upon purchase . i GUARANTEE this to be the right thing if going redmax , ive whipped 100 accounts per week 15 years so i sorta know this machine
