I once read the giant press JD uses cost over a million dollars back when they first had it built (Husqvarna has one too). Who knows what it would cost nowdays with the price of metals being what they are. The cost of both the press and the required dies (which run upwards of 100K each) simply put them out of the financial reach of most commercial mower manufacturers since none of them are even close to JD & Husky in size or assets. Many can afford smaller presses to stamp their entry level decks and decks up to 10 gauge but the press needed to stamp 7 gauge steel accurately and repeatedly is a whole new ball game.

Personally, I have no problem owning either style.

I can also tell by looking back to see how they're hanging and often reach back and feel them to see how firm they are.
