Briggs ran out of petrol, now it won't start

my ride on ran out of fuel on a job yesterday, I refueled but it won't start. If I spray starting fluid in the air filter inlet it runs for 1-3 seconds then dies. I cranked and cranked, there is fuel pumping to the carby and I just swapped another spare carby onto it but it is still the same result - any ideas what is wrong??

Without any other info posted ^^^^^^........

If it has a fuel cut-off solenoid on the carb, Make sure it's getting switched power......

Take a spark plug out and crank it over a little bit till you smell or see gas. It just needs a priming. Plug back in and vroom.....Off you go.
