Green under snow

Is your lawn green under heavy snow? Like last year, I wanted to find out. My grass was a bit packed-down; it didn't look fully green, nor completely brown. Oddly--the soil was not frozen. A shovel penetrated it easily--even though it had been about 10 below zero a couple weeks ago. Green shovel is about 3 inches deep. I was about 35 degrees today. Of, course, there has been about 18 inches of snow on the ground, in the last 6 weeks.

I could not tell if snowmold was present. My grass is Kentucky blue, fine fescue, and perennial rye.

What does your grass look like? Soil frozen? How deep?

Whoops; picture didn't load.

Grass under 18 inches of snow. Cleared a bit of snow in March.

Darn; sometimes the "upload" button is not visible--out of the window to the right.
