I have a appointment with DMV tomorrow to ask them. I ran into a local sherriff when I was down picking up my ttractor yesterday, he said "take out your license" and I flipped it over, on the back it says "C-Veh w/GVWR<26000". Then he said, "theres your answer".

Trailer size is your issue.

How big is your trailer again? (GVWR)

I would agree with that. Most of them are, thats why I am still going to DMV to see what they have to say about it. I got it home last night, so I guess I will find out if I did it legally or not. Hah, but I will take the written while I am there if I need it...

But the state can make a requirement that is more strict than the federal law. And after reading the CADOT page it does appear that 10001 lb or more trailer weight puts him into CDL territory.

Yes.

Mesa is correct. State can make it stricter but that only applies to their residents.
