Good ground cover for shaded areas?

I have about a 1000 square foot area that is pretty well shaded by oak trees growing in it, this is the front corner of my property. For the last few years I have mulched this area but am wanting to try something different this year and was wondering if you guys could recommend a good ground cover for shaded areas it would be nice if it flowered at some time of the year but it doesn't have to, I am just looking for something that would look nice from the road but isn't a massive area of mulch. Thanks for your help!
