Finished my first Mulch estimate today. I am in the ballpark with my price?

Hello. I'm very new at this and somewhat nervous. I didn't want to come off as a amateur that I am. I just finished an estimate and I'm suppose to email 3 quotes to the homeowner. Weekly mowing, Fertilization, Mulch and scrubs trimming.

The client has 2 existing mulch beds. 6x12 and 12x10. He wants 3 more beds cut in along the drive and walk up to the front door. 2x25, 2x45, 2x60. In total I estimated 3 yards to be on the high side.

He also wants a 40ft hedgerow about waist high trimmed and another 20 individual bushes trimmed throughout the front property of the home.

Black dyed mulch goes for $31 a yard and $50 delivery fee.

My estimate is
3yrds mulch $261
Delivery $50
Cut mulch beds $130
Bushes $60

Total $501

As for mowing I estimate around $35. The property in roughly 15000 sqft.

Am I in the ballpark with prices?

I personally wouldn't give the property address with what your proposed rates will be. This is an open forum and anyone can see the address and your price............

You're low. Mulch is ok. But need to be higher on making new beds. Rent a sod cutter to help

I would say three yards of mulch is not enough. You have 260 square feet of new beds. Plus the 192 square feet of existing. I would be closer to 4 yards. If not 4.5 to be safe.

ANY thing you pay out should have mark up on it.

If you are charged $50 for delivery, charge $60.

Making/edging the beds is too low..I bet your not accounting for what to do with the waste product (sod)
Dump fee? where you taking the left overs from.

bid more mulch, I would say 5 yards

But this is how I do bids like this:

5 yards mulch ($12 delivered, $31 cost bulk, 7 man hours @ 45 $315/5 =$63 per yard installed, $7 mark up on the mulch) $113/cy installed or $565.00

Cut/edge beds 4 man hours @ 45 = $180.00
Dump fee $20.00
Trim/prune shrubs 2 hours @ $50 = $100.00

Total = 865.00
Package discount 2.5%
$843.00

so they are getting $22 off to do it all at the same time or basically a half hour of saved time.

If you want, you could give them an "up to" five yards mulch price.
IF you don't use all the mulch, you don't charge them for it all.

but this only really works if it's mulch in your truck or trailer, and you have multiple jobs to mulch, so if you got 5 yards on your rig, and they use 3.5, you charge 3.5 and take the other 1.5 to start the next job (always round up when billing the customer…don't do 1.4 yards here and 3.4 yards there… it's 1.5 and 3.5

I calculated again. This time using 5 yards of mulch. I came up with $770. Estimate was sent. I'll keep everyone posted.

You'll get this. Way too low.

5 yards of mulch should be a minimum of - $400
The hedge trimming should be a minimum of - $180
Delivery is fine - $50
Dump is waaaay low - $100 (you're gonna have dirt and sod coming out your ears)
Cut new mulch beds - $500

Way too low. Just way, way too low, bud.
