License

In Sarasota county, I understand you need your business license for the county to cut lawn, and trim trees, but what about tree removal, I see online it looks like you need to pull permits, so do you need to be an arborist to remove a tree, or can lawn care companies also remove a tree?

Likely, in Sarasota county like mine (Seminole) a "business license" is actually a misnomer for Business tax receipt. They (the state and the county) all want their money. You will need to classify the nature of the business ie.; lawn maintenance vs. landscaping vs. tree service which the cost go up accordingly as with insurance and other requirements.

Also, there are municipal Arbor codes which may prohibit you doing tree work. I see way too many tree hacks doing crap work. If you really don't have the education or knowledge and skills, you shouldn't be messing with trees anyway. Same thing goes for anything else in the Green Industry..

I am not in Sarasota County so I can only tell you what most counties require. Lawn Care Tree Trimmer etc need a $ 35.00 Occupational License that is renewed every October. Permits to remove Trees from Residential Property would only be needed on things like Heritage Oaks and Mangroves. Trimming Trees is one of the cheapest business to start up. I have seen more than one guy on Bicycle dragging a ladder and Chain saw to the job. They cut and bundle the trimming for garbage pick up.
