Hello from Lafayette, LA

Hello, thinking about starting a lawn service next year when my kid starts school. I am a full-time firefighter so this will be my second/part-time job. I am looking to mostly neighborhood yards with a few small commercial jobs to keep a steady income. I am not sure which equipment to purchase. I am currently looking to buy a trimmer as mine is currently broken. Would like a mower that will fit through 36" gate but not sure what would work best. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

welcome cprej. I'm from lafayette, la too. I'm a part time lawn guy, started in June of 2013; also have a full time job (old field related).

but I have been in the lawn business before, in my early 20s.

I have a gravely compact pro 34" for residential yards and gates. great little mower! I'm looking at a Gravely 60" next

Lafayette for sure has room for competition for lawn services. I'm about maxed out with customers already and I don't advertise.
I started with 3 good customers last season now have 7 and a possible 8 coming up.

Word of mouth is your best friend in this business.

Just some advise, I wouldn't buy much equipment until you have some solid customers first.
