Grass above stump turning brown

What would cause the grass above a ground down stump to turn brown at the first heat and small dry spell. ? The rest of the yard is green, area above stump is brown. Has done this for three years now stump was ground down new dirt put over and seeded. Is the stump that is left deep down draining some nutrients? Has probably at least one to two feet of dirt over it however, Really puzzling...

My neighbor's stump was similar, 30" diameter elm. Only about 8 inches of low quality topsoil added. Grass grew OK, green, but thin due to him never watering it. See it in my old posts from 2011. And a huge cluster of toadstools/mushrooms came up last week. Toadstools came up about the time of the first greenup. Just before the first mowing.
Maybe the area you mentioned has porous soil and it dries out too quickly. Or maybe it has low-quality seed --like perennial rye or creeping red fescue--economy mixture--or "contractor's mix".
