Towing with a garden tractor

So at my house we have a Toro LX 420 garden tractor. It has hydro drive in rear wheels. 17 hp kholer engine. Could this tow a 5x8 trailer with about 1000lbs? I Dont have a real good place to put my trialer, but if the tractor could tow it then I could get it in smaller places than with an f-150. I could always go get a gear drive off of Craigslist for $200 and use it because I have my doubts about the hydro drive working for it. My neighbor tows his 4k lbs dump trialers around with a tractor all the time. And his boat. Idk if it is a hydro or not.

That would burn that machine out quick. It would void the warranty. It's probably rated to pull 200-250 Lbs. I wouldn't even try it.

I agree with agrostis. These little garden tractors will last a pretty long time as long as you don't do more than the machine is supposed to do. Towing is a big no no as most of these machines have sealed disposable transmissions and once the trans goes, it is not cost effective to fix

What he has is not a garden tractor. It's a lawn tractor. Big difference

My bad. Just looked it up. He said it was a garden tractor in his original post.

I used to have a Murray 12 hp 38" deck rider with a 6 speed gear box. I used to use it as a "Tug" to move my 6x12 trailer and bass boat around the yard. Full throttle and 1st gear only....worked great.

We do the pulling moving thing with our AC 918 garden tractor and old Simplicity Powermax all the time but a Toro LX420 at 395 or so lbs is not strong or heavy enough for that. Our rule of tumb for this is tractor should be 20% heavier than what it's hooked to.
