Steps to get noticed through search engine searches?

Hey guys. I need some help on getting noticed on google and the like.
At the moment my website doesn't show up with basically any local searches dealing with lawn care or similar search terms. Any of you computer geeks have any pointers on getting my site noticed? Thanks for the help!

You can get traffic to your site, but will you convert them to customers? I kinda dig your logo but that 15 year old waving flag made me want to instantly close my browser and move on. It's distracting, especially when you throw in another moving object, which is the auto-play slideshow on each page. Also, a 4+MB page load, on every page, is not going to endear you to mobile users (they account for a lot of your potential traffic).

So, what's wrong with the site and why doesn't Google like it? You simply have no real on-site SEO or content.
Your home page's title tag is this:
[title></title>

Your Meta Description tag is this:
(you don't have the tag at all)

Your #1 ranked competitor's home page title tag is this:
<title>Madison Lawn Care | Madison, MS Local Lawn Services</title>

Your #1 ranked competitor's meta description tag is this:
<meta name="description" content="Lawn Doctor Madison MS supplies top-rate lawn services. Your neighborhood will envy your healthy, green lawn! Call Lawn Doctor today." />
Before looking for additional feedback, I'd recommend you take these steps:
1. Read this: http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo
2. Based on what you now know, visit your competitors' sites and see if you recognize what they're doing.
3. Do Step 1 again
4. Install the Yoast Wordpress SEO plugin
5. Apply what you've learned
6. Write content around your services. You can't just list services and hope it ranks. Your visitors will appreciate it. The search engines will appreciate it.

I saw that waving flag and instinctively turned down my speakers, expected "Born in the USA" to start playing.

Content's the biggie, and the best thing I can say is to write for potential customers first and the search engines will follow. If you try to over-optimize your content it'll turn off readers and, potentially, even the search engines.

I see you are using Wordpress very simple man could do it in under 30 minutes time max.

Open a google webmaster account place the code in your footer html at bottom google is that easy, also add keywords in WP like your locale, lawncare, business name and offers those help a lot people think it is very difficult and tell you need to get a big SEO plugin and all that junk.

I run none of it, I have one of the largest European news sites in the world have not touched it in 6months and only has fell to upper/mid 60,000 rank range worldwide.

Need a ICO for your page the little graphic in your toolbar, like the yellow one on LCS at top in your browser tab

I did coding and web design for years, coded for php nuke, platinum, evo, and xtreme, also designed and coded themes for them all, switched over to wordpress and never looked back I also manage friends servers in Texas.

I have to admit, and I'm fairly web savvy, I'm not quite sure I follow your advice.

- What does placing Google Webmaster Tools code in the footer do to help the OP's issue of a lack of ranking? Surely there's some kind of follow up advice that could be added to this step? "Google is that easy", isn't really that easy, at least in my experience, for whatever that's worth.

- I know why I recommended that the OP use a well-regarded plugin, but why would you tell them they're junk? My recommendation walks them through it, which is great for beginners and pros, alike. Your recommendation is simply to not have one at all. So, then what does the OP do?

SEO it tracks the new post keeps them current in google searches constantly, tracks all the bad on the site to like malformed post etc.

Its very easy to do or you can just download the html file supplied then upload it via FTP to your root directory and verify it in google, same with bing and all the others.
