english ivy

It seems like everyone around here is now trying to get rid of ivy from there beds, and from being wrapped around there bushes. I've been doing this for years by hand with shears, and shovels, but what a labor intensive job, especialy for large jobs.

Anyone have any short cuts or heard of any cost effective way to get rid off the stuff? I'd be interested to hear what you guys are charging ( by the hour or job) for this type of work as well.
