Dump Truck???'s

Iam looking for a dumper for the back of a F-350 or F-450. What do you think is the best dumper bed for the rear of these trucks. I have found a 99' F-450 with a monroe 9-10ft dump with 7.3 diesel with 32,000 miles at my dealership for $24,000. What do you think about these questions?

Are you looking to put a dump unit on an existing truck, or buy a truck already put together?

If you want to haul heavier loads go with a F-450 if you can afford one a F-550 I have a F-Superduty (first version of 450) and its far better than a 350. They carry more weight and lot beefier truck putting 6000lbs on them is nothing I have had 9000lbs on one and it handled it but I new I was way overloaded.

If you are looking for a dump get one with a telescoping post hoist they lift more and faster they are also less maintanance the one on my previous truck could bend the frame before it powered out. I like long boxes on my trucks minimum 12' long and 8' wide when hauling bulker stuff like rubbish,brush etc there is more room a 8' box is only good for hauling gravel and when you haul topsoil you can't get enough on the truck.

I used to beable to haul 3 yards of topsoil and 2.5 yards of gravel and sand I like to keep the sand and gravel loads to 2 yards as its close to 6-7000lbs.

I have a diesel F-Superduty now haven't put a dumping flatdeck on it yet my previous truck was 460 powered it only got 4-6mpg.

i have a 91 super duty 7.3 8ft dump bed air cruise control and mount and controls for a western snowplow. i havethought about sellng .

Have you ever seen the hoist on a tandem axle gravel truck its the same thing but in a smaller version instead of a 40 ton hoist the one I was talking about is a 7 ton hoist.

When I look at the websites for mason dumps etc down in the states the scissor hoist its used alot I couldn't find a manufacturer that makes a small telescoping hoist. Here in Canada Del Hydraulics makes them and they are a big seller www.delhydraulics.com .

Like I said before with a front mounted hoist (Post) its like dumping a wheel barrow from the end of the handles where a undermount scissor hoist its like trying to dump the wheelbarrow by lifting on the tub. The post hoist has more leverage the box or deck has tobe real strong it would buckle in the middle.

Yea i was looking at the dumps right now i only have F-250's. So i would like to upgrade and i wasnt sure what is the difference with lifts? And thanks Gravel Rat for that insite.

Let me first tell you what a close friend of mine did. He wanted to haul gravel and topsoil and such. So he looked at all teh options, and finally decided to just go get a F-7500 for his dump truck. Its huge, like a mini-semi truck, with a big dump bed, it can handle loads the F-550 could never dream of. Its a crew cab, and gets about 19 MPG, so he uses it to tow his mowing trailer now as well.
I think it was about $45,000.
So if I was in your place, I would probably just go get one of those, spend the extra money.

If not, go with the F-550 with a dump bed on it.

The problem with a 5 ton single axle dump you can't get into the tightspots like a 450-550 can alot of people don't want a heavy truck backing over their lawn etc. I thought about going to a 5 ton single axle but you can't charge enough to justify it so I would be better off going to a tandem which defeats the purpose.

A single axle 5 ton can carry 6-7 ton legally a 550 can pack 3.5 4 ton legally you can always make two trips with the 550 to get 6 yards of gravel.
