You don't need a cdl.... That's the whole thing...

Unless you're truck and trailer are over 26 combined

I agree , but why on here are some people saying you do

LOL

All of the sudden with a gooseneck instead of a bumper pull trailer you now need a CDL

Does not make sense to me

7000# truck
4000# trailer
10000# skiddy IF

21000#

Wrong numbers.

Need to look at what's gvwr is on truck sticker. Scale weight doesn't matter

I know a 14 foot dump is generally a 14k. Mine will be 16k but it's a 16foot.

We have a 23 ft deck over that's 16k pulled with a 3/4. No cdl

Yes it would be 14k just as my bumper pulled dump trailer was.

Hey Josh - feel free to call me to discuss this. It's impossible to have an adult discussion on this forum. I'm not going to sit here arguing with people about what I have seen, experienced, researched, etc. But I will be happy to discuss on the phone.

It has nothing to do with gooseneck vs bumper pull. It's all based on weight.

You do need a CDL, and I will explain.

(Too for zero) 674-466four

Anyone else from MD is welcome to call me also.

Or - if you don't want to call me, then at least call a Maryland Commercial Vehicle Inspection Station and ask to speak to a supervisor. In Frederick the local landscaper club (falcon) hosts a day where the MSP DOT Unit comes and speaks for the day about DOT laws and inspections. May be something to attend.

let's put it this way - The DOT units are very big on NOT writing tickets that a judge will not enforce. Each DOT inspector writes more than one ticket per week for this violation.
