When to mow new grass

How long should I wait to mow new grass? Yesterday was two weeks since it was planted and it's probably about 6-7 inches (not full or thick though)...

I usually run the trimmer and keep it about 6" and mow it after a month. Probably overkill but I've never hurt any new growth yet.

Ok thanks. After I do that, would it hurt to throw down more seed, or wait until fall?

If it's that long, about a week ago.

What if it's 3' in a few weeks?

You mow it when it needs it. Mowing encourages root growth which is what you want.

I currently have a temporary deer fence around it to keep the dog off of it. After I mow it should I still keep it closed off, or will it be strong enough for foot traffic?
