Diesel Trucks

Anyone running the 6.0 Powerstroke and what have you done to keep them reliable?

not running one, i have a 6.7 cummins, but pretty much on all the newer diesels doing all of the deletes keeps them much more reliable

After many years and thousands and thousands of dollars, I have done the following:

1) Removed the 6.0 and installed a Cummins 12v on one.
2) Sold the second one.
3) Keeping my fingers crossed and praying that #3 will not bankrupt me. Still trying to decide if I should do a Cummins swap on that one.

Have you done the deletes on any of them? dpf, egr, egr coolers? most of the time its the emissions equipment that causes the issues with newer diesels. whether it be turbo sooting up and failing or dpf plugging up alot of the reliability issues can be traced back to the emissions systems. deletes and a good set of head studs can do wonders for reliability

What did the Cummins swap run you? Just curious.

We have a F-450 dump with the 6.0. Luckily, most of the expensive problems with it occurred while it was still under warranty. We had a local diesel shop bulletproof it a few years ago.

The majority of my issues have been injectors and other things, like STC or HPOP pumps that create a no start issue. Not the EGR problems, so no, I haven't.

Close to $8K after I had it rebuilt the second time after the turbo bearings went out and the engine seized. Fortunately all it needed was some head polishing and bearings, nothing else was damaged.

This truck will outplow a 7.3 all day long.

I bought mine at 100k. Did the coolant flush and added a filter, did a new oil cooler and egr delete. Run the pants out of the truck, about to roll 200k and wouldn't hesitate to take it cross country.

MInes an 06. The yr they got it right from what I hear. All I did was put a chip in it and its currently getting 16.8 MPG and goes like a mofo.

Gosh it seems so hit or miss with this engine. Makes me concerned to consider it for future purchase, but at the same time I see it everywhere.

06+ has improved heads with a larger dowel size.
