Major Local Algorithm Update

Here's the details: http://searchengineland.com/google-m...gorithm-197778

I see major changes to some of my local results- mostly for the better.

for the city i'm located in, I went from top of 7 pack to dissapeared... I had just got my 5th review on google yesterday so was looking for my stars.. lol. So that listing is pretty much gone now. but my other listings are on the first page, and I have one that shows up just above the 7 pack still. My duplicate places listing that i can't seem to get rid of is showing up in a search for the next city over that i really want to target.. which is kinda good. but what will happen next.. lol.

Across all sites, by far the biggest shake up I'm seeing are in the 7 Pack. Organics are all similar to what they were, but I see a lot of large (6-10 spots) changes in the Pack.

I'm not making any changes for a few days, as I'd like to see how everything settles, but it will be interesting to see what signals show themselves as having such an impact on Maps listings. I'd recommend you all wait, monitor, and then make changes as these updates can be extremely fluid or bouncy. This is also a great reason why you should keep a historical record of your keyword ranks.

I got boosted a few times on the 7 pack. I would like them to allow us to have more than one specific area. I know we have a radius, but I wish we could pick pacific cities in the radius.

You can move your radius marker or you can add cities/zips instead of radius. I've always found the radius to be the best approach.

So far, the only thing I see drops in appear to be age-related. Older listings all held where they've been, or climbed a slot or two (my main keywords tend to rank very high for organic and 7 Pack, so climbing isn't something that's always possible). Newest listings, especially those that, until the last few months, had no online profile, are the ones that have seen drops.

For example, in a very competitive, large market, it took me approximately 2 months to climb a completely off-the-grid LCO to #1's in the 7 Pack. That held for approximately 3 weeks (as of yesterday afternoon) and today it's in the 8-10 slot for the previously #1's.

This change was bittersweet. Added us to the pack on some searches we didnt rank for.. and took us out of the #1 spot for the 2-3 packs we were dominant for.

I had an old places listing show up in the 7 pack for another city which was great.. I'm still ranking on few other cities on the first page as well. But one thing i have noticed, and I have a habit of checking throughout the day.. the search results bounce around big time now. I'll be in #1 spot, #4 spot. Then some of the competitors seem to disappear for a while, then they are back later, then gone. I never seen such big flucuations like this before in the results. Is it still possible that things are settling in? (or whatever). Anyone else noticing this? Its almost been a week. Can't complain, i'm ranking well in a city i never thought i'd be able to rank in the 7 pack. It'd be nice if it sticks.

May be wrong in this but do cookies still play a part in what you see?
