Power Stroke Diesel repair question

I am looking at a '96 F250 XLT PSD. It may need the following and I am NOT familiar w/diesel.

Slight grind into 3rd (Man trans). Synchroniser?

Rear pinion seal?

It has 200,000 miles.

Hey A1, this is an opinion only, so take it for what it's worth. With those miles on the truck, and those problems, unless they're almost giving it away, I'd stay away from it. Plenty of Powerstrokes have more miles on them, but 200,000 miles is getting up there for that engine. You can expect problems with glow plugs, fuel pumps, water pumps, and other misc. parts - none of which are cheap on that engine. I wish I'd known you were looking. I have a '97 F350 dually with a 12' flatbed I was thinking of selling. It's got 160,000 miles on it, but has had all the problems I've addressed above all ready handled, including a rebuilt transmission. But the truck is in Missouri now...

Synchros and a new rear seal are VERY minor.

A1 I would think so. At the same time consider how much you want to spend should the things Randy mentioned need work. And I have not personally seen all the problems that some people have.


Of course if you can talk the guy down in price that will be a plus too.
