underbids, then asks for advice

ok, im ready for another bashing, u guys just seem to love to disagree with me(even when im right). check this out: my customers lawn looks awsome, yes, we do a good job, but its also one of these lawns that are easy to make look perfect. flat, level, long front yard, etc. now, the nieghbor comes over and explains he has been admiring our work for quite some time, and inquires about service of his own property. i give him prices, the old jaw hits the ground, and thats the end of that, i get the old, "ok, let me discuss it with my wife...., we will call u." now, a few weeks later i see another service there working. this was last may, the place still looks bad, and the homeowner is giving the guy a hard time about it. so dig this, the lco comes over to me and starts asking me questions like, "how do u get it so green? how do u do this, how do u do that." my question is: what would u guys do? give the guy advice? he just underbid you! i think u know what i did, im just curious, how would u guys have handled it?

I would start out by telling him to fertilize it with the spreader and to set it double what he normally sets it @. I would then go on to telling to go over the whole lawn @ least 4 times with it. Then I proceed to tell him that within a few weeks the fertilizer he just spread will make the lawn look more "green" then ever.

Then you might end up getting a sodding job.

Why do you feel the need to make comments like that.

Bobby,

I would tell him that it is a trade secret but he could sub the job to you.
