Got a free John Deere 111

Well, the guy that runs my favorite deli gave me his old John Deere 111, last year he bent one of the spindles on the deck so he bought himself a new walk behind.

So, now I've got a 11hp JD with a 36" deck, which as far as i can tell, is about as useless as they come. the thing is tiiiiiiiny. I spent the day cleaning it up and patching some holes in the deck (got there when the spindle bent) and generally getting it looking clean again.

I don't really have much use for it, I think I could only use it to pull a detacher. So I was thinking of selling it. The guy at the JD dealership said it was no less than 15 years old and if I cleaned it up nice (which i did) that I could probably still get $400-600 for this thing. It sounds crazy to me, but i guess its all in the name.

I'm sure it'd be good for someone with a 1/4-1/2 acre of lawn to mow, but its just too small to do anything larger with.

any suggestions on price? or what to do with it if i can't sell it?

the 111 john deere is pretty old i believe. if you keep it it could have many uses like pulling a dethatcher, aerator, spreader etc etc. can also put attachments on the front like a blade etc. maybe a good back up mower? if you are not interested in keeping it i may be interested in it as i love john deere tractors of all sizes and am looking for a bigger mower for open areas until i can afford a ztr. maybe we could work out a trade if you are looking for something bigger? i have a 16 hp craftsman that is painted jd green, with a dozer blade on the front. while talking about it the old craftsmans and john deeres a like were built much better before then they are now. if you compare strength and design etc of my tractor to a new craftsman mine would probably be equal to a 20 hp. its amazing.

turns out its a 1984 8hp? (at least stock) it has a second engine in it, but we're not sure if its an 8hp or an 11hp as found on newer models.

Stslawncare, I'm afraid I'm not gonna trade it, I've got too much "stuff" around here anyways, but if you're interested in buying it let me know. shipping/transporting would be a pain in the *** though.

Soon as I can get it outside and pressure wash the bottom and paint the underside, its getting a for sale sign on it.

I'll try to get some pictures (if the damn rain would ever stop and the sun come out for once!)

Nice

She is in great shape. You could easily get 500-600 for it. It is amazing what people will pay of the Green and Yellow.

Good luck with whatever you do with.
