This awesome picture was taken in the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana on August 6, 2000 by a fire behavior analyst from Fairbanks, Alaska by the name of John McColgan with a Digital camera. Since he was working while he took the picture, he cannot sell or profit from it so he should at least be recognized as the photographer of this once in a lifetime shot.

This is an incredible picture! My brother and I took our own kids and our sisters kids [9 kids age 5-13] down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, just a few miles south of where this picture was taken. We were ordered off the river by the Forest Service on August 16, and I have pictures showing us rafting down the river between burning fires except that mine are extremely dark and hazy due to the immense amounts of smoke in the air. The wind must have been blowing just right for this picture because we spent two days covered in smoke and ash with no pictures as clear as this. Quite a memory for the kids though! Me too.

What a picture. I was wondering how I could download the picture file. I have a DesignJet plotter that can print near photo quality up to 24" by 36" and think this would be an awsome picture to hang on the wall.

Right click on the pic then save as file then put it in a folder on your hard drive.

Then by using adobe photoshop or paint shop pro cut that nasty ad banner off the top of the pic.

Parkwest,

You can avoid having to edit the photo if you save the original from the photopoint site.

Save the original by going to:

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...nce=0&res=high

Then follow Stone's directions:

"Right click on the pic then save as file then put it in a folder on your hard drive."
