3rd FREE Public Give Away

Hello Again.....

It's time for the 3rd Free Give Away. The Give Away will be $50 cash, a pair of work gloves (good ones), and a pair of hand pruners courtesy of LawnSite.com.

As with give aways in the past, to be elligible, you must answer the following question. You can only answer the question once.

If there was one person in the Green Industry you could meet, sit down with and share a meal, and ask whatever you want, who would it be and what would some of the questions be? This is a fictional question, so the person you choose can be living or deceased. But please, answer this question seriously.

Thanks for all of your responses and Good Luck!

Well I have met and spoken with some pretty interesting people in our industry. Rick Carver, Marty Grunder, John Allin. All great guys.

Marty Erbaugh (sp) was a gentleman who started a chemcare company in the Northeast called LawnMark Lawncare. Marty grew the company to about a dozen or so locations before selling to Barefoot Grass. I would like to take a trip back in time and ask him.......

1. How he got started.

2. How did he make the transition to his second location

3. How well did he really know business when starting?

4. Who were his mentors?

5. How have things changed in the industry since he started.

6. Since he sold the company.

7. Why he sold the company.

8. What is his involvement in the industry today.

9. Would he do it again?

10. What would he do differently?

Mr. Jones

The original Mr. Jones.

I would take the original Mr. Jones ( of the neighborhod Joneses
that everyone else is trying to copy, the one that alway had the
nicest lawn and landscape, that was the envy of the land and no
amount of money would stop the neighbors from copying and trying to outdo) out to the dinner of his choice.

I would thank him for taking the time and effort to make his lawn
and landscaping so beautiful that everyone else would demand
the same or better!

I would let him know how much I appreciated him making a fuss
about a stupid plant that gets cut every week, is a pain to keep weeds out of, gets diseased and ridden with insects, dries up with the drought and then needs to be renovated and aerated and fertilized and irrigated. And of course I would thank him for spending $thousands on plant material that needs to be mulched,
weeded, fertilized, sprayed for insects and diseases and replaced
when the next door neighbor out-does his landscape.

Thank you Mr. Jones, because if it was not for you, how could a clown like me be in the business for the last twenty some years
to take care of yours and the rest of the neighbors' lawn and landscape.
