correct..about the Merit.


about the truck close call on I-94....this is very unusual to have a wheel lock up like this. almost impossible. Unless you try to change gears (which will cause engine stall), the brakes/wheels are not tied to the engine at all.

tell the dealer that you WANT the field service/quality engineer to come and inspect the truck. Then, the engineer will review your events and will take the appropriate actions.

It dosent have to be brakes, it could be something in the transfer case or transmission causing the lockup. Or even something in the axel. I do not think it was the brakes that caused it to stop. But an event like that should leave some damage or some kind of trace of occuring if they tear it apart to inspect it.

you are right, but imagine the violent trust that he'd feel if it was the pig, transfer case of the tranny. correct, the dealer will open that up and definetly see brocken parts.

i can't wait for the follow-up post with the answer!

Well just today, after visting the dealership last night to discuss with the service manager and shop foreman. The service manager called to tell me the the feild service manager/engineeer and the two others were discussing the truck to figure it out??? NO ANSWER. He did say he did contact consumer affairs about this problem.
Here;s the kicker, yesterday the service advisor called my voicemail at 3:00 and said they replaced a SSO sensor ? or some type of sensor in the trans. and that it was fixed. Oh right i said to myself, so about 5:00 i head up there to talk to these clowns.. and on my way i get a call on my cell from the same service advisor stating--- Sorry its not ready afterall, we need to do some more road testing and diagnosis to it first.???? WTF NOW i know something is wrong. :Basically its the first time that Ford has ever had this problem> from what they say, and I personally think they are confused. I know that trans is damaged especially after locking up 4 times (3 times with me and once with the mechanic_) Basically this sensor went haywire and told the trans to go to Park. AT 70MPH -=== i think this could be the start of some serious sh*t for FORD

Im not going to implicate myself with to many facts, but back when I used to do field service work, I would regularly rent rental cars and find ways to amuse myself, such as defeating the rev limiters to do neutral slams, what would happen if I put it in park on the expressway, etc... Well, I put 2 different vehicles in park while driving, one was a Mitsubishi, and one was a Pontiac. I started out at speeds of about 30 MPH and eventually tried it at highway speeds of 70 MPH. In all scenarios, nothing locked up, the parking pawl only racheted. In the Mitsu on the highway it actually broke off. I even tried to shift into reverse, but the shift computer locked it out until it was rolling under about 5-10 MPH. It would not even attempt to shift at highway speeds. So basically I am saying hogwash on the parking pawl being able to lock the wheels. And no I do not want to be a expert witness at your trial

it's better to let them keep the truck as long as they have to in order to figure it out. i hope it locked up on them so that they can experience it too.

kevin, you are correct. i used to have an 88 escort and my dad was driving on the highway. to conserve gas (in 92 when the gas was $1.12/gallon......he is old school), he would shift in neutral every time he was coming down a slight hill and just coast. Well, one time he overshifted and put it in reverse. The engine stalled and he had to crank (i think). after that...i told him, "Never again or else".

So, since everyone here is Mr. Goodwrench tonight, someone come fix this for me so I don't have to wait for a loader and a lowboy to come get me. Don't really know what happened, went around the corner and BOOM! The tire literally flew off. I'm not over weight though WTF !

Is today Monday

I'm gonna go walk down to a part store and grab a six pack while I wait. If anyone is interested, I'm at 29 mile and Romeo Plank. You can't miss me. I'm the dumb ass with the yellow flashing light on and a snapped axle. 16,000 pound axles my ass...

you broke the axle or just had a flat? holly molly!!....never heard of 16K axles. good luck.

I dunno, it says it can carry 16K pounds. I'm assuming it's total and not per axle. Regardless, there isn't even 8K pounds in the trailer. It's only 5 yards or so.

This is what happened. I turned the corner from a stop sign, the axle snapped, and the tire shot off the rim. We think that when the axle snapped, it caused the tire to hit the leaf springs and the pressure made it explode. I dunno though. I'm still trying to figure out why the axle snapped. The trailer is new (2005.) It's a 16 foot with twin 22K pound hydraulic cylinders. The axles are Dexter.
