if you can only join one how do you go about figuring which chapter would be the best?
can I sign up under landscape even though i only do sprinklers and lighting and share the account with a landscaper so that we can try to bring more leads to them and alternate weeks we go?

any other insight about BNI?
You didnt ask this but...
From what i recall there can only be one person from an industry per chapter.
So if there is all ready a landscaper at the chapter you "want" you cant join.
You may have all ready known this.

I may be wrong but i think it is, but if you miss more than a few meetings you are gone (which might be why there are not many landscapers, they get busy and dont have time?)

Your best bet is to contact BIN and they can answer all your questions a lot better.

Yes, only one business per industry, per BNI chapter (landscaping, lawn maintenance, and snow removal are all consider seperate industries in BNI).
There is a yearly fee, along with a strict attendance policy. However, if you can't make it to a meeting you are allowed to send a representative.

If you have the time, energy, and resources to devote to BNI I think it's an excellent way to build your business.

The cost for BNI i thinks is around $250 for the year. Then there is chapter fees that you have to pay to be a member of the that group. This covers location rental, speakers that may speak, and some other stuff that deals directly with that chapter.

As far as signing up for services that you provide, there is a sheet that you have to fill out asking what you do and what you would like to get leads for. If there is someone already in that group that does that then you can't get the leads for that service. There is also a background check that they do. Its more or less just checking to see that the person they are letting in represents a company that provides a quality service and doesnt have problems with customer service. They are looking for the best.

BNI.com You don't just "sign-up." You have to contact your local chapter, see if they have any openings for your specific industry, and ask to be a guest at a meeting. At the meeting you will have to introduce yourself and your company. If all goes well they will invite you to join. At that point have to pay your yearly fee, and possibly a one-time signup fee. I believe you can be a guest 2 or 3 times before making the choice of joining.

my uncle is in a local BNI. he tried to get me to join this fall but the $300 join up fee plus $30 per month afterwards deterred me. plus you have to refer 40 people every couple months.....sounds kind of like a pyramid scam everytime he talks to me about it
