And just because it SAYS Commercial Landscaping does not mean that is a literal definition, as I posted earlier that is a very ambiguous category that could include many things. I wouldnt rule out mowing JUST yet.

Not to mention, I just noticed on that list they have "Service Contracts" as its own category. Now that is even more vague.

Current Contracts

I know the customer is going to have to pay the 6% but are there going to be beaners out there trying to get people under contracts to eat it. Just out of curiosity how did the tax go from 4% and get turned down and passed at 6%?

They say "commercial" mowing, because if you are legit you are commercial and remit the tax. If not it is a selling point to be on welfare while mowing for "beer money". I think this will help to expand the underground economy. Great job=;(

The people who are going to complain the most are the people who elected those in office.

I wish we could come up with a straight forward answer to weather or not this is going to effect mowing/maintenance. What about snowplowing?

The term "commercial landscaping" is just way to vague, where do you draw the line, mowing, fert, irrigation, tree removal/stump grinding; the list could go on and on. I don't consider mowing to be "landscaping" - I mean we've been through this before, the 'lawn mower guy ins't a landscaper', to quote sheshovel.

As far as I'm concerned, no good will come from this tax. I will join in with the sending of e-mails to my sen./rep. But it will have to be tomorrow because its very late I can't think straight.

i'm sure they will define what exactly is and isn't taxed. A lot of other states do this already. You will most likely have a small decline in new business, but then people will get used to the idea.

I'll tell you what is going to irritate me the most, since the list has things that are taxed and things that are not, is going to be people that try to charge tax when they are not required to, and pocket it because the customers cant keep track of what should and shouldnt be taxed. Kind of like if you have ever had a auto repair shop try and charge you tax on labor... that sort of deal. I would have honestly had an easier time with the all services taxed deal instead of this some services taxed.

Look under landscaping. Everyone should probably get their michigan sales tax licenses squared away pretty soon.
