I think I'm just trying to get my door hanger out soon as possible!

I just did 10 hangers during the afternoon to a highclass neighboorhood that needs their lawn cut!

I'm new to this industry, so I'm not quite sure what to say to people when they are outside.

ie) I am approaching house a, there is someone outside house a as I approach. I see them, then what do you say to them?
Hey, I'm with Simply Green Lawn & Landscape. I'm wondering if we could offer you some of our services? Then you offer them your business card as well as a flyer, instead of a door hanger right?

I gotta ask again. Why are you doing this for lawncare now? Most people aren't thinking about this kinda stuff a week before christmas, and most likely your efforts will end up wasted, with your hangers in the garbage can. Wait until spring.

I think timing of ads really depends on the services offerred. I know I will be putting out my doorhangers around Feb. and I'm afraid that may even be a little too late for Lawn applications. The big companies advertise heavily during the off-season and I've seen some (like TGCL) begin their applications as soon as (and sometimes before) the ground begins to thaw.
On the other hand, I've noticed that for mowing, ads will sit with no calls until the grass is about a foot tall and then you get swamped with calls at the last minute.

Could be a little more efficient doing them at night. You could cut across lawns without being seen. But as Gr grass n Hi tides stated, doing them during the day would give you an opportunity to speak with the homeowner, which in my case is always a much easier sell.

I have found that by going between 3 and 5 pm, I get a lot of door hangers on the people's door before they get home from work, and then see them when they pull up. Also, you will run into alot of people coming home at the same time you are there, and can just hand them to them, and try to strike some conversation also.

I wouldn't go after dark at all, I think any other time is better.
Good Luck

"hanging them during the day is good because you might actually have an opportunity to talk with a few folks."

Very good point. Politicians go out during the day to campaign, why shouldn't you when you are selling your services.

I will go during the day to hopefully see people out and about. This will be a good way to personally introduce myself and the services I offer.

I was also thinking of attaching magnetic business cards to the doorhanger with some kinda stuff that you find on the back of gift cards. Magnets are a great way to have your in ad in someones house for years to come, at least I think so. I have some from years ago.
