10 yr old Honda GXV390

I was give a Snapper riding mower with a Honda GXV 390.
Mower kept in barn.
Only rust is on mower deck.
Engine clean of dirt an corrosion.
No gas in fuel tank.
Oil is clean.
Battery removed because it was corroded and dead.
Electric start and pull rope.
Engine pull rope pull easy, stops on compression when pulled slow.
I have in PDF form Service Manual, Owners Manual, and Parts Manual.

Would like to do as much as possible on a disability budget. If I left out any info let me know and I will try to help you help me.

So.. I guess the question is, you want to get this thing running. Sounds like a good project. Ok.. lets make a list and if I forget anything, I'm sure someone else will chime in.

OIL: drain it out, dump in a lil kerosene or something to flush the crankcase.
FUEL TANK: disconnect the fuel line to the carb and dump some fresh gas thru it. Visually check for rust and crud.
CARB: remove fuel bowl and clean it out. Make sure the float moves freely up and down. check and replace air filter if needed.
SPARKPLUG:Remove and replace, gap according to specs.
PULLROPE: Remove and replace with new one. It will no doubt be rotten after 10 yrs.
Battery: replace. clean all connections
MOWER: Give it a good looking over. may need to replace belts. Lube all grease fittings. Tires may be dry rotted as well. Remove and sharpen blades, check blade spindles.
Refill fuel tank.
Fire it up and see what happens!
