Wish I could help you, but I'm just starting out myself... I have had signs, buss. cards and flyers made and no luck yet, but if I have any luck I will let you know... This probaly doesn't help much but hopefully when people see that there is a reply they will join in and give some suggestions too...... Good Luck..

Last year I used the local newspaper, I received some calls, but overall I found the paper to be expensive and not worth it.So this year I have done flyers, business cards, and word of mouth. There is no better advertising than word of mouth. I have received alot of calls this year through word of mouth.

the very best advertising you can buy is nice equipment from the trucks to the velkes. nice uniforms. professional looking employees operating in a professional manner. signage on the trucks. image means alot, but you have to have the service to back it up.

postcards work good, have them professionally designed and printed or forget it.

door to door works good, but you have to time it right, and be confident in your sales pitch.

some people do some illegal stuff with flyers. i hear that is effective.

networking through friends and family can be useful. but be careful, the favorite aunt that you mow for $25, pay me whenever is good for you can really mess with your production numbers later on, and it's hard to play hardball with family.

word of mouth is definitely a big one.

but it is so important to remember that your company image is what people see when the individuals who are in your company are out in public.

Thanks cutnitclose, Joe25 and Cleatus!

cutnitclose....I am just starting in the business also, and appreciate any and all tips that I can get. Good luck to you as well.

Joe.....I have heard that word of mouth is also the best, but somehow I need to get those first few clients. I have total confidence in my ability to do a great job and that I WILL get good word of mouth. Good luck to you and your business!

Cleatus......I agree that you must not only do a professional job, but look professional too. I have purchased some advertising in a local magazine type brochure that is big on coupons with a percentage off of the service. It is about to hit mailboxes and I am very anxious to see if my money was well spent. It will go into 40,000 homes in 3 major areas. I've got my fingers crossed! Thanks and good luck to you and your business!

Has anyone else tried this type of advertising and how do you handle discounts for your services? Do you give a percentage off the first mowing or a dollar value?

Thanks for your responses!
