How to clean Walbro Carbs?

I have an Echo 240 stick edger that I accidentally let sit this winter with some fuel in the Walbro carb. It wont start now and I want to learn how to "de-gum" a carburetor. I let things like this happen all the time and am tired of spending $40 and three days of downtime to get it fixed. I'm mechanically minded, I just need to know how to do something before I start. I have an air compressor and solvent, am I on the right track? Thanks for the help!

get a can of carb cleaner spray the carb clean before removing then remove it remove the 4 screws and spray everything clean (lay gaskets and diaprams like they come out)unscrew the little needle clean it use the little plastic tube that comes with the carb cleaner and stick it in all the little holes and spray them clean put it back together. Use saftey glasses when spraying cleaner so you dont get any in your eyes and gloves if you have sensitive skin.

Should I worry about the tiny holes in the bore? The needles in this carb are sealed and I cant seem to get them out. Thanks again.

carefully remove the plastic limiters from the screws then you can screw them out .Also start using fuel stabilizer. Your carb problems will be reduced.You may need to replace the diaphragms if they are not soft and pliable.

A better way is to get a can of carb. cleaner (the type you soak them in) strip the diaphrams and needle valve off and soak the carb, rinse, blow and assemble (if the diaphrams are hard or streached replace).

Once the diaphram assembly and needles are out is there anything else inside that block? I soaked and blew through the carb and reassembled it. It still would not start, but I could at least keep the engine running after a shot of starter fluid. I had to keep the engine choked and the throttle wide open to keep it running. What does this mean? Time for new diaphram or rebuild kit? Thanks for the help!

More than likely some sort of fuel starvation, diaphram, pluged filter, bad fuel line, not venting, water in gas, take your pick. A kit should be about $12.00

when you put the needles back in hom many turns did you open them?

I believe it is till it seats (but dont screw to hard or youll screw up the needle and flastten it), then do a half turn back.
I beleive this is correct may want to confirm with another member.
