Mulch - yard or scoop?
I am estimating my first large mulch job. It will require 217 cubic yards of mulch. My supplier charges by the scoop. How do I determine how much to order? What would others charge to put this out?

Measure the bucket of the loader to see what the cubic feet measurement is, then divide by the number of yards needed.Usually a 5' Bobcat bucket , a little heaped will be close to a cu. yd. With 217yds. , I'd sub it out to a blower truck, and make a nice 15-20.00 yd for doing nothing, except for writing the check to the blower co. That would be a 15K job for us to do by hand, depending on the terrain and accessibility. You could make 3200.00-4300.00 by subbing it out.JMO....

I would ask him how much is in a "scoop" and if he doesnt know may be time to look for someone else.

Hole in one-----so what you are saying is, the bucket on a case 1835 is the same as a case 95 XT.??? These are both skid steer units. Every one that buys mulch from thier local nursery should check out just how much they get in a "scoop"
if you have 1 job thats takes that much mulch, go right to the mulch supplier. 217 yrds is around 3 semi truck loads of mulch. Yes you should look at blowing it in. |

if your mulch supplier is reputable, he would sell it by the yard, which is the standard for mulching.
His "scoop" might equal a yard. Ask first. If you're buying 217 yards, I would hope, your'e getting that amount. Thats alot of money and material to be guessing on. Most large suppliers will deliver with a tractor trailer dump or a walking floor. Typically the walking floor trailers deliver 70 yards, although our loads have been mostly 80. Depending on the wetness of the load and grind of material 80 is pushing GVWR and GCWR of the tractor trailer. |

I'm just real curious,What could you possibly be doing with 217 yards of mulch?
That's a whole lot of mulch, and we've done enough 100 yard jobs to know what it will cover. |

I agree Dave ...thats one big mulch job. Something doesn't seem right here. Your going to want to skip this middleman loading it by the scoop for a job that size. How do you determine how much to order? You said you need 217 yd3 ???????? And if your asking how to price it you may be in over your head..

whats so hard to believe about 217 yrds of mulch? Some mulch companies do jobs around here that take 2000yds at a time. I would sub it out also though.
