I'm curious to know how many of you use a core aerator for overseeding. I have before with limited success. The grass comes up great in the holes but seems to die off. I was told yhat when the holes fill back in it chokes off the grass. Is this a posibility?. Any comments or suggestions about this?

(Hole depths from 1-1.5 in.)

I have pretty good results when i aerate and then run the slit seeder over the area in two different directions like a checker board. For damaged existing lawns this works as well as you can expect. Oh, and i cover the area with seed aid like penn mulch.Good starter fert and water, it's off and running.
