Snow removal insurance!!

I have access to a carrier that just reopened it's market for Snow removal operations. Like the rest of the carriers out there, there are of course restrictions.

Gas Stations
Public Roads
Box Stores

You must have a commercial auto policy on the trucks used for plowing operations and the liability limit on the Auto and the GL must match.

If your operations don't include any of the above and you'd like me to explain more, please give me a call and about 10 minutes of your time. Please do not ask me who the carrier is over the phone. It's an A rated carrier I can assure you.

In NY if you want a completely unrestricted snow removal policy it's very expensive. This particular carrier does not want the exposure of high volume sites. A Walmart for example will generate a lot more foot traffic than a small stand alone store will. The more traffic, the greater the likely hood of a slip and fall claim. The carrier cannot offer all the other classes that are currently excluded at this price point. A 1 truck operation can probably come in under $2000 with this carrier. I have guys that pay $40-50k a year for their policies. They have no restrictions and they do a lot of work. Amazingly, they don't cry about their premiums. I can't foresee a real answer to this problem anytime soon. I only see it getting worse. Until we have another crazy economy like 2000 to 2007, you won't see rates go down.
